The Mollie’s team commissioned Roger Lewis to create a bespoke armchair for their motel rooms, which fit the look and feel of their brand and the establishment.

The Soho House team launched a new concept project: Mollie’s. This Diner and Motel is inspired by 1950’s America, with the signature modern twist you’d expect from the likes of Soho House. A completely new concept for the UK, Mollie’s combines classic US culture with a sophisticated, contemporary look and feel.

Soho House is a luxury powerhouse. They’ve successfully established themselves as an exclusive member’s club, which values creativity and expression, and this is evident in the beautifully designed spaces they create. Soho House have a diverse portfolio of venues, from the original member’s club houses, to restaurants, workspaces, studios, and event spaces.

The rooms in Mollie’s Motel are a million miles away from the grotty roadside motels portrayed in American pop culture, with each one coming with Egyptian cotton sheets, rainforest showers, are fully stocked with Cowshed products, and include superfast Wi-Fi and large flatscreen TV’s as standard. However, the design of each room is a charming take on popular 50’s trends, combining hardwood panelling with comfortable soft furnishings, and retro style lighting.

The Mollie’s team commissioned Roger Lewis to create a bespoke armchair for their motel rooms, which fit the look and feel of their brand and the establishment. Which begs the question, how do you make a chair that’s cool and contemporary but also shouts 1950’s America nostalgia?

Easily! We incorporated popular design features from the era, including soft curves on the arms, and piped edges. We also opted for a saffron poly velvet fabric, which is not only typical of the time but also tied the rooms in perfectly and fitted the desired palette for the project. We took this retro inspiration and added a Roger Lewis contemporary flair, opting for clean, simple lines, and a beautifully shaped frame.

We created the Mollie’s armchair to be long-lasting and durable, without sacrificing design and feel. With a proven history in contract furniture, creating a hospitality grade bespoke piece was a simple task. We hope the Mollie’s armchair will delight guests for many years to come.
