Woodmachinist & Pre Production Operative

The Warehouse & Pre-Production Team Leader will be primarily responsible in working alongside the Production Planner, Procurement Co-ordinator and our Manufacturing Team Leaders, to co-ordinate work within the factory, in order to ensure attainment to plan. They will assist and learn all aspects of the Roger Lewis Supply chain including Product Development whilst also providing cover for Team Leaders.

Responsible for all warehouse, WIP and pre-production activity whilst leading the drive to build frames for product development along with the in-house manufacture of Frames.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department Team Leaders to determine material requirements and track material
  • Requisitions material and establishes sequential delivery dates to each manufacturing department, according to work-to-list priorities and material availability
  • Quality control: examines material received at goods inwards and delivered to production departments to verify conformance and specification
  • To take responsibility for the control of failed quality components (containment)
  • Compiles and contains manual or computerised records, such as material inventory and status location of materials
  • Responsibility for management and control of Kanban activity within production area by working with, and monitoring supplier activity
  • Responsibility for supplier reconciliation and subsequent stock adjustment
  • Responsible for the amount of value held in process with a target of zero for shift end
  • Liaise with the purchasing and planning functions to ensure material meets demand
  • Control of material usage from BOM accuracy to actual build, looking at usage per unit
  • Assist with the development of Mock Up’s and development furniture builds
  • Assist with the development and build of Jig’s, Fixtures and Fittings along with assisting the Operations Manager developing production processes
  • Assist Team Leaders to create and maintain SOP’s and visual management boards
  • Provide timely concise reports to the Operations Manager
    Support with holiday covers for Team Leaders
  • Assisting the Design Director, Operations Manger and product development department attending site to review quality issues regards all products
  • Support Product Development with the build of prototype frames
  • Developing the process and implementation of ‘in-house’ frame production
  • Coordinates and expedites flow of material in relationship to build schedules
  • Arrange in plant transfer of materials to meet production schedules
  • Clear and active motivational communication
  • Full understanding off company quality systems, managing any quality issues establishing root cause and measures to prevent re-occurrence
  • Assisting with the creation and maintaining of KPI’s
  • Administrating personnel records, including leave, training and return to work interviews, personal development records, general production
  • Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety and taking appropriate action if necessary

Upholsterer

Acting as an Upholsterer for the Upholstery and Finishing department you will work within a team of upholsterers ensuring HSQE requirements are adhered, OTIF production and quality targets are achieved thus surpassing the expectations of the clients are continually surpassed

Acting as advocate for continuous improvement you will work within your team on Kaizen and other improvement projects

Training and development of others within the team in all aspects of upholstery along with assisting with developing the working area, processes and SOP’s and providing technical advice.

Product Development Technician

Reporting to the Senior Product Development Technician and working closely with Sales, Procurement and Production teams. This is a practical hands-on role, which will require drive and determination, to see projects through from concept to conclusion with a minimal guidance.

The ideal candidate will have already worked within a workshop environment, within a manufacturing business

You will have extensive experience and sound technical knowledge of Design, interpreting conceptual and technical drawings, creating SOP’s and build reports. Good communication skills are essential along with a flexible approach to work

You must have good analytical, written and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be in an existing creative development role within an SME manufacturing environment with a strong competence in MRP/ERP systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Extensive experience of manufacturing and relevant processes
  • Creation of SOP’s, Setting Quality Standards, Creation of Processes and Procedures
  • Generating reports and Maintain KPI’s
  • Managing Products and their process from conception through to production
  • Liaise with Sales/Buying/Production/Transport Departments
  • Propose and evolve compelling product concepts
  • Prioritising & Scheduling work
  • SME Manufacturing background (as opposed to FMCG)
  • Monitor & merge production efficiencies
  • Experience/exposure to purchasing/procurement
  • Working & contributing towards creation of internal SLAs (Internal and supplier)
  • Ability to generate and clearly communicate inspiring ideas, from sketch work through to development, visually and verbally

Apprentice within the sewing and cutting team. The successful candidate with be enthusiastic and flexible, with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

You will receive comprehensive training, benefiting from both structured training programs, and on the job teaching. From which you will learn practical hands on skills and techniques to produce different types of upholstered furniture

Being a sewer, you will be required to work in a wide range of production environments. Workplaces can be a variety of size from small work-shops through to large commercial factories; either way you will need to be able to work independently and as a part of team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working on sewing and cutting machines to prepare fabrics for upholstery
  • Learning how to programme and digitise a Lectra cutting machine
  • Working with a large range of materials including fabrics and leathers
  • Using a range of trimmings and finishings including buttons, facings and piping
  • Using traditional methods such as slip stitch, tacking and hand sewing
  • Use a range of hand tools including scissors, shears, staple lifter
  • Good housekeeping and general labouring duties
  • Checking stock levels and storage of stock/ inventory
  • Working as part of a team on piece work production and ensuring good organisation of production workloads to maintain daily attainment to plan
  • Minimise waste and ensure efficiencies with consumption of materials etc

  • Working with a large range of materials including fabrics and leathers
  • Stripping down items of furniture from covers back to the wooden frame
  • Using a range of trimmings and finishings including buttons, facings, piping and decorative studs
  • Using wide range compressed air equipment including clip, frame, staple, pin
  • Use a range of hand tools including scissors, shears, staple lifter, tin snips, hammers mallets and pincers
  • Cutting materials with templates ready for upholstery
  • Good housekeeping and general labouring duties
  • Working with mechanical components such as sofa-bed actions
  • Checking stock levels, managing storage of stock and inventory
  • Working as part of a team on piece work production
  • Working independently, using your own initiative
  • Minimise waste and ensure efficiencies with consumption of materials etc
