Senior Buyer

New opportunity for an experienced SME Buyer looking to move to a senior Managerial/ influential role.

Future focus to join our Operational Board. Our business is growing rapidly and requires a Strategic, Influential Senior Buyer.

Job Purpose

  • Determining the strategic procurement direction for the business
  • Assisting with run rate reordering, forecasting with vendors
  • Development of current product ranges
  • Analysing the market and competitors to spot gaps
  • Increasing and maximising on product margins
  • Introducing new suppliers and or managing existing suppliers and building relationships
  • Negotiating prices / reducing costs

Identifying and resolving day to day issues, with the support of the Procurement Co-Ordinator

Direct responsibility for all Buying activities and spend

Buying from UK and International (China) suppliers

Key Performance Indicators

  • Value of Procurement savings
  • Stock out’s & machine downtime
  • Rebates negotiated and received
  • Management of supplier contract spend
  • Creation and adherence to SLA’s
  • Purchase price variance
  • Supplier OTIF

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing stock levels and ROP’s
  • Vendor management, selection, negotiating prices, quantities and delivery time scales
  • Financial administration, managing Budget and supplier payments
  • Produce, maintain Budgets, reports and forecasts
  • Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing including product development
  • Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organisation
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
  • Provide analysis on costs, new and existing and review cost reduction activities
  • Work closely with others relating to procurement and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements
  • Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff and visitors
  • Negotiate contracts, SLA’s, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
  • Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and maintain good communications
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures during supplier negotiations and contracts award process
  • Conduct research for new components and suppliers
  • Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
  • Requisitions material and establishes sequential delivery dates to each manufacturing department, according to work-to-list priorities and material availability
  • Compiles and contains manual or computerised records, such as material inventory and status location of materials
  • Active participation in daily production meetings
  • Provide timely concise reports to the Operations Manager and Managing Director
  • To support and improve initiatives to improve business systems and processes making recommendations to the Operations manager

Essential Skills

  • Significant experience of working as a Buyer or equivalent position
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing / engineering business
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Buying role
  • Strong & effective negotiator and motivational leader with proven ability to build and develop a relationship
  • Demonstrable history of ability to work within a fast-paced role, multi-tasking & prioritising
  • Ability to develop strong internal relationships
  • Strong IT skills including intermediate level Excel
  • Strong numeric skills including good attention to detail and data interpretation
  • Ability to handle matters with sensitivity, diplomacy and integrity
  • Experience of having worked within an SME manufacturing-based business

Job Description

Marketing & New Sales Executive Opportunity offering excellent salary prospects and the true chance to influence at a senior level.
You will be an exceptionally organised individual who has ‘hands on’ Marketing experience, keen to use your broad Marketing toolkit, developing and delivering a new Marketing Strategy for an exciting new market.
A proportion of the role will be focused on looking after day-to-day client needs, orders and projects as well as your key Marketing responsibilities.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, we are looking for a proactive, solution-focused Marketeer that can create and really drive our brand forwards to enable us to improve our reach.

Main Tasks


  • Identify and develop the Marketing function within our business in line with strategic direction
  • Build our brand within the A&D and Furniture specifying community
  • Build a strong working and advisory relationship with the Sales Team delivering meaningful Marketing support and content
  • Develop website and social media content that fits with brand image and growth strategy objectives
  • Manage our website including CRO and SEO
  • Build and develop relationships with relevant media, bloggers and influencers
  • Public Relations – source advertising opportunities. Produce creative content, including press releases, videos and blog posts
  • Research, write and proofread marketing copy for both online and print campaigns, produce creative content, including videos and blog posts
  • Manage collaborations/sponsorships
  • Work closely with our in-house or external creative agencies to design marketing materials such as brochures, presentations adverts, content pieces and case study production
  • Managing and advising on the Marketing Budget
  • Manage social media, email campaigns, PR, blog and newsletters
  • Evaluate effectiveness of campaigns and interpret outcomes via Google Analytics and other relevant tools
  • Monthly market research analysis and our marketing impact to be presented to the senior leadership team to focus the strategic direction of the business


  • Account management of allocated contract & retail client relationships
  • Project management on allocated contract projects
  • Manage client and marketing events including trade shows
  • Tender and Pitch preparation
  • Attending client meetings

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years Sales & Marketing experience within (Furniture/ Design Led/ Development/ Interior Design)
  • Day-to-day management of websites
  • Creative appreciation
  • CRM system knowledgeable
  • Mailchimp or similar
  • Literate, numerate and analytical (A-level minimum)
  • Confident communicator within a team environment
  • Exceptionally organised
  • Self-starter, who is focused on outcomes and highly resilient
  • CIM Certificate preferred
