Style Edit: Pantone S/S 21 Colour Palette

Shining Bright

PANTONE’S SPRING/SUMMER 2021 COLOURS ARE RICHER, BRIGHTER, AND MORE VIBRANT THAN PREVIOUS YEARS AND IT’S NO ACCIDENT.

Pantone collated the palette with the desire to immerse the world back into colour, choosing tones and shades that inspire hope, optimism, and light-heartedness.

Among the range of ten colours and five core hues, there were three colours that stood out to us. Each mirrors the (much needed) warmth of the coming months, and the balance between them when they are offset against each other evoke a calm, happy mood.

Pantone 16-1529: Burnt Coral

‘Inviting Burnt Coral expresses conviviality’

Perhaps a nostalgic tribute to 2019 – which saw Pantone dub ‘Living Coral’ their Colour of the Year – Burnt Coral was a firm favourite among the Roger Lewis Design team. The fresh, pink tone inspires enthusiasm, without the overpowering brightness of traditional coral shades.

Pantone 14-1050: Marigold

‘A cozy warm yellow-orange hue adds a touch of warmth to spring and summer.’

If the mere name brings back unsettling memories of your Mum’s nauseatingly yellow sitting room, you’re not alone. However, Marigold has been reinvented for 2021, and is set to be a staple colour as we approach spring. Possibly the happiest shade known to man, Marigold is the perfect pop of colour to add a cheery, summery atmosphere to a space.

The Sintra armchair is the perfect way to achieve this look. Sleek and contemporary, the shape and feel of the piece lends itself perfectly to bright, happy colours, and looks fantastic in Marigold.

‘RUST COLOUR ORIGINATED FROM THE EARTH. WHICH IS EMBLEMATIC OF AUTUMN AND GIVES US A SENSE OF AFFINITY IN SPRING.’

Pantone 18-1248 – Rust

The cool, muted brown creates a sense of peace, and grounding, and is representative of the quieter emotions that Pantone aimed to evoke with this palette. This earthy tone adds depths, and balance to traditional spring/summer hues – it is the perfect staple for creating contemporary and refreshing spaces.

Pieces like the Kyoto Dining Chair, made with Kirkby Design Leaf Recycled Wool (in Rust) combine this restful colour, with tactile fabric and stunning design.
