HASSELL Studio emerges victorious in our ‘Customizer Challenge’

It’s been another fantastic year at Clerkenwell Design Week for the Roger Lewis team, with our stand in Design Fields proving a big hit amongst festival-goers. Here are some of our highlights from the jam-packed, three-day event.

The Customizer Launch

Industry-first app ‘The Customizer’ from Roger Lewis

To celebrate the launch of our industry-first app ‘The Customizer’, we pitted three leading design practices head-to-head. Designers from HASSELL Studio, Peldon Rose and Tribe Furniture were challenged to use the app to create custom designs, which were then upholstered onto our classic Sintra chair.

Driving Excellence & Celebrating Craft

Hand crafted by experienced sewers, frame makers and upholsterers.

Stand-visitors and Instagram-lovers alike voted for their favourite design throughout the week but, after a fierce contest, it was HASSELL Studio that emerged with the crown (or rather, bottle of champagne).

‘The Blueprint’

HASSELL Studio’s chair design, named ‘The Blueprint’, merges Bauhaus-inspired geometry with a 1970s colour palette, accented with a vibrant pop of royal blue. The original design was reconfigured using The Customizer, adding a bold and contemporary feel to the finished piece. A deserved winner.

Kyoto’s Debut

It wasn’t just The Customizer that drew attention to the Roger Lewis stand though.

Our stunning new Kyoto collection also made its first public debut…and we were thrilled with the reaction. Designed by the talented Richard Jones, Kyoto takes its inspiration from a vintage pin cushion, and marries a contemporary upright style with surprising comfort.

The collection inspired positive reactions among visitors to our stand throughout the week – watch this space for more details coming soon.

Rethinking Stereotypes

As well as revealing the winner of the ‘Customizer Challenge’, Wednesday saw our MD Marc Richard take part in the ‘Rethinking Stereotypes’ panel debate over at flooring manufacturer Tarkett’s showroom in the heart of Clerkenwell.

Marc was in good company alongside Evelien Reich (Editor, Elle Décor NL), Catherine van der Heide (Senior Associate, HASSELL) and moderator design journalist Katie Treggiden.

The panel explored a newly launched research report by Tarkett, which reveals the wants and needs of office workers in the UK, focusing on differences across demographics in terms of what makes an ideal workspace.

With employees keen to feel comfortable and in control of their office environments, the increasing shift to co-working spaces with design elements of residential interiors has led to a demand for more bespoke furniture pieces, which ties in perfectly with our own commercial collections.

Marc Richard explains

“It’s no surprise that Scandinavian interiors were most favoured by Europe’s office workers in the Tarkett research. At Roger Lewis we’ve worked hard to harness the benefits of this style for maximum comfort – it’s a part of our design ethos”, explained Marc Richard.

Once again, Clerkenwell Design Week has been insightful, engaging and inspirational.
A special thanks goes out to everyone that visited our stand and took the time to learn more about our products. Here’s to the next one! Is it too early to start preparing for CDW 2020!?
